TRURO – A chance meeting during a local man’s Caribbean cruise has resulted in a performance in Truro by the internationally acclaimed Ernie Haase & Signature Sound.
Truro resident Aubrey Wallace was attending a Karaoke night on a cruise ship about a year ago when he met members of the band and connected with their manager.
“They were trying to find a place to play close to Houlton, Maine,” said Wallace. He added that he encouraged them to come to Truro, which they eagerly agreed to do.
“They are very excited about coming here. They are in the midst of a Canadian tour and this is the farthest east they are coming.”
The Grammy award-nominated gospel quartet is set to perform at the Cobequid Educational Centre at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Wallace, a member of the board of stewards for St. Andrew’s United Church on King Street, Truro, said the concert was organized as a fundraiser for the church, which is looking ahead to a major improvement project.
“The church is in good shape actually but our heating system is getting old,” he said, adding: “we think we can get a year or two out of it.”
On Wednesday more than half the tickets had been sold.
Tickets are $44 or $55, including tax and service charges, and are available at MacQuarries Pharmasave on the Esplanade or online through www.ticketpro.ca.

Wallace said concertgoers could expect to hear wonderful gospel music, a bit of comedy and “a lot of energy and enthusiasm in their performance.”
