Man charged with attempted murder for choking woman, threatening to kill her

HALIFAX - A 53-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after police say a woman was choked and assaulted by an ex-boyfriend who threatened to kill her.

Police were called to the 5400 block of Uniacke Street in Halifax just before 7 p.m. on Saturday.

According to police, the suspect entered the home of his 40-year-old ex-girlfriend, assaulted and choked her, and said he was going to kill her.

The victim was able to flee the home and went to a neighbours, where police were called.

When officers arrived at the victim’s address, police say the man threatened to kill himself with a knife, but eventually surrendered.

The 53-year-old will be held in custody and will appear in court on Monday.

The woman refused to be treated by paramedics.
