HALIFAX — The team that investigates serious incidents involving police will look into how a mentally ill man fell to his death on Monday.
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) says the 27-year-old left a mental health treatment hospital in Halifax and officials from the hospital were concerned he presented a danger to himself.
The agency says officers went to his apartment on South Park Street at about 1:30 p.m., but found the door barricaded, so they forced entry. The man was on the balcony and a few minutes later, went over the balcony.
He died in hospital later from his injuries.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call SiRT at 1-855-450-2010 to assist with the investigation.
