HALIFAX - Halifax Regional Police has suspended with pay a seven-year member of the force after he was arrested Monday on allegations of domestic violence.

Police were called to a downtown Halifax apartment building at 5:40 a.m., and according to the province’s Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT), officers encountered the off-duty HRP officer and a woman in the lobby.

Police say they called in SiRT to investigate the incident and the officer was arrested on Monday afternoon.

The officer has been released from custody on a promise to appear in court at Halifax provincial court on Feb. 27.

The man is also prohibited from contacting the woman.
