TRURO - A suspicious package outside the Rath Eastlink Community Centre prompted a call to emergency personnel.

Emergency personnel responded to a call of a "suspicious package" outside the Rath Eastlink Community Centre early Thursday afternoon. The package, police determined, belonged to a patient at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre across the road, who left it when they were outside having a cigarette.

Truro Police Service Insp. Rob Hearn confirmed a call was received over the lunch hour about the package.

"It was subsequently determined that a patient from the hospital left a bag outside where they went to have a smoke," said Hearn about the call that prompted a response from police, firefighters and Emergency Health Services. "In the meantime, we treated it as a suspicious package."

Hearn said the patient was identified and it was confirmed the package belonged to the patient.

so they leave the hospital to have a smoke over where people are trying to get a healthy lifestyle?? this is what i hate the most. in order to get to the rinks around this province, you have to run the gauntlet of smokers that gather right outside the entrances and doors.
