TRURO – Details about a new school for Tatamagouche should be forthcoming within a few months, says a Chignecto-Central Regional School Board representative.
Details on new Tatamagouche school expected in the near future
Herb Steeves, director of CCRSB’s operational services department, told the Truro Daily News although the provincial government has added a new primary to Grade 12 school to replace Tatamagouche elementary and North Colchester High School on the capital planning list, there’s no confirmation when the construction will begin.
“We don’t know a timetable … sometimes it takes a few years. We expect details to come in the next few months regarding cost and scheduling,” said Steeves, adding the new school is “good news. The idea for a (primary) to 12 school originated from the Tatamagouche community ... instead of school renovation, use the money for a new school.”
An operational services report at the CCRSB’s committee-of-the-whole meeting in Truro on Wednesday night confirmed the province announced, on Dec. 23, the new school for Tatamagouche was included on the 2014-2015 capital planning list. It was one of seven capital projects submitted by CCRSB in the last year and, locally, it is in addition to a new primary to Grade 4 school for Bible Hill that will ultimately replace Bible Hill Central and Bible Hill East Court Road elementary schools.
