Dog wakes owner

By Karla Kelly - An early morning blaze destroyed a home on the Lewiston Road in Ashmore, a few kilometres east of Weymouth late last night.

Bob Hurst said his dog woke him up alerting him to the fire and they both were able to get out of the house in the nick of time.

Fire departments from Weymouth, Plympton, St. Bernard and Bright and Barton responded to the call, which came in about 1:30a.m.

Firefighters' efforts were hampered by the extreme cold and high winds. They remained on scene until 6:30 a.m.

The house is still standing but completely destroyed.
