TATAMAGOUCHE – The Tatamagouche Village Commission brightened the holiday spirits of five homeowners in the area this week.

The commission, along with the area’s Colchester County Councillor Mike Gregory, hosted its second annual home and business holiday decorating contest presenting surprised homeowners with their awards on Monday.

The winners are: First place, Colin and Sandra Cunningham, Balfron; second, Bonnie and Harold Church, Oliver; third, Aubrey and Evelyn Tattrie, Route 6 Loop; fourth, David MacEachern, Main Street; and fifth, Ron and Valerie Creighton, Main Street. Edna and Cameron Veno, Maple Ave.,  received an honourable mention for their efforts. The best-decorated business award was given to Open Doors: Career and Resource Centre, Main Street.

Commission chairman Jim Baird said there were lots of great entries and it was a close race for the five finalists.

“All in all (it was) a great exercise in building some community spirit, which we hope will continue next year,” said the commissioner.

He added that many of the apartment buildings around the village were well-decorated.

Baird promises next year’s contest will be bigger and better than ever.
