TRURO – Truro police are once again reminding people there are ways to protect their Christmas purchases.

Keep parcels out of sight, Truro police warn

Inspector Rob Hearn says every year residents complain about stolen packages from vehicles leading up to Christmas. However, there are simple ways to reduce the chances of being a victim, he said.

“Leaving (packages) home is the best,” but if you choose to leave parcels in the vehicle, Hearn said, “leave them in the trunk. Don’t leave any items out in the open.

“People in a criminal act are always looking to make a quick buck. If they are out, they are looking, and it’s easy to break a window.”

Hearn said most thieves won’t take the time to get into a vehicle unless they can see something is there to take.

“There’s less chance of getting caught if they move on.”
