TRURO – In less than a week, Truro’s winter parking ban will come into effect.
Seasonal parking restrictions about to begin
The law prohibits vehicles from being parked on roads between 1 and 7 a.m. It will begin Sunday, Dec. 15 and will remain in place until April 1. Inspector Rob Hearn told the Truro Daily News violators face a $15 charge and/or towing of the vehicle.
“The ban is important because even though the weather can start out fine, it tends to change quickly,” said Hearn. “We need people to find an alternate place to park (other than on the road) to allow town crews to clear the roads … it’s a safety concern.”
Hearn said despite the fact the winter parking ban is an annual program, “sometimes people forget” and education and awareness go a long way.
Last year, there were more than 470 tickets issued for violating the winter parking ban.
