TRURO-There’s a festive and fun competition going on in Forrester Hall uniting staff and students at the Nova Scotia Community College Truro campus.

The Christmas Tree-riffic Challenge is being undertaken by staff and students in different departments throughout the campus, and those involved are hoping many people will stop by the campus to vote for their trees.

The display is located at the peak, the observatory on the top floor of Forrester Hall.

There are eight Christmas trees entered in the challenge, each one with a special theme. The event has been a holiday tradition at the college for several years, organized by Troy Payson, faculty of the Adult Learning Program (ALP). He feels this year there has been more enthusiasm than ever.

“We started a bit earlier this year,” he said.

In the past, it was a staff only event and last year it was put on hold.

This year, however, the holiday spirit is re-ignited with a new enthusiasm. Payson said it was nice to see the students involved in the challenge this season as it added more excitement to the program.

The organizer asked faculty to recruit students and have the groups organize it so the trees could be judged to get the whole campus involved.

The public is welcome to visit the campus and view the displays, then, cast a vote for their favourite tree. The only voting day remaining for people to stop by the campus is Dec. 10 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., however, a voting web page has been set up on Facebook which can be found by searching ‘NSCC Truro Campus’ and liking whichever trees in each category they think is best.

The categories are: Most creative tree, best representation of theme and best overall tree.

The winner will be chosen after votes are counted Dec. 10.
