WESTCHESTER – The eastbound lane of the Cobequid Pass is open once again.
Traffic is now flowing through the toll section of Highway 104 after it was closed for the second time in 12 hours earlier this morning as snow and blowing snow brought traffic to a standstill. Several tractor trailers and other vehicles had become stuck on the highway on both sides of the toll plaza and they climbed the hill toward it.
Crews are still working on the westbound lane.
Traffic was rerouted through the Wentworth Valley and RCMP asked motorists to avoid the area while crews worked to clear the highway.
Continuing updates on conditions on the highway can be found by calling 511.
The highway was closed for seven hours Tuesday evening as RCMP, firefighters and Special Hazards units responded to a multi-vehicle pile up, which included four tractor trailers, just west of the toll booth in Westchester.
At the time the area was being soaked in heavy rain and blanketed in fog.
Only one person was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The crash closed the eastbound lane of the highway and limited traffic in the westbound lane, prompting authorities to reroute traffic through the Wentworth Valley.
Highway 104 was reopened several hours later once the scene was cleaned up, just before the rain turned to snow
