TRURO - The following are only a few of the events taking place locally to kick off another weekend in Colchester County.

Old-time dance - Friday – Douglas Street Recreation Centre, Truro. 7:30 p.m. Shared lunch, 50/50 draw, door prize. Sponsored by the Truro Y Senior Citizens Group. Ages 50 and older are welcome.

Darts meeting - Friday - Debert Mixed Dart League meeting. 7:30 p.m. Debert legion auditorium. All new people are welcome.

Kids clothing, toy sale - Saturday - Middle Stewiacke Recreation Centre. 9:30 a.m. to noon. $1 admission.

SPCA dog walk - Saturday - Victoria Park, Truro. Registration at 9:30 a.m. Walk at 10 a.m. Pledge sheets and more information at the Colchester SPCA shelter or by calling 893-7968.

Potluck supper - Saturday - Royal Canadian Legion, Debert branch. 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Donations of hot and cold dishes and desserts appreciated. Call 662-2454 or 662-3875 by Sept. 14 if you have a dish to share. $10 per person for the potluck meal; $5 for children 12 and younger.

Stewiacke walk - Saturday – Five or 10 km walk. Meet at Mastadon Ridge parking lot. 10 a.m. Rated 1A. Call 895-2592 for more information.

Gospel coffee house - Saturday - Debert Baptist Church. 7 p.m. Musicians welcome.

Potluck supper - Saturday – Bayhead hall. 4 to 6 p.m. Adults, $10; children six to 12, $4; younger than six get in for free.

Community supper - Saturday – Corned beef and cabbage. Sharon Presbyterian Church hall, Dean. 4 to 6 p.m. Takeouts available. Adults, $8; 12 and under, $4; preschoolers get in for free. Sponsored by the board of managers.

Scale model show, competition - Saturday – Bible Hill Junior High School. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Nova Scotia Modelers show. Competition fee: $2. No cost to display models. Call 896-3816 for more information.

Kitchen party - Saturday – Debert and area kitchen party. 1 to 5 p.m. Debert lodge hall, 1191 Plains Rd. Light lunch. Everyone welcome.

Market anniversary - Saturday – Truro Farmers’ Market first anniversary at the Young Street location. 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cake cutting at 10:30 a.m. Special events, guest speakers.

Tractor pull - Saturday – Upper Stewiacke Volunteer Fire Brigade’s 11th annual event. 9 a.m. 5336 Hwy. 289. Adults, $5; children younger than 12 get in free with an adult. Canteen on site.

Indoor yard sale - Saturday – Quality Graphics building. 69 Wood St., Truro. Rain or shine. 8 a.m. to noon. Fundraiser for Autism Nova Scotia’s Race for Reason.
