HALIFAX - A 40-year-old man was taken to hospital after being hit by a steel beam while at a workplace site at Dalhousie University on Monday morning.

Officers responded to reports of an injury at the construction site on Lemarchant Street around 7:30 a.m.

Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. Pierre Bourdages said the man was conscious and breathing when he was taken to hospital.

Chrissy Matheson, spokesperson for the department of labour, said the victim is an employee of Economy Glass and was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Matheson said she isn’t sure how far the steel beam fell before hitting the man.

“That’s all part of the ongoing investigation,” Matheson said.

A stop-work order has been issued for the workplace site.
