SHUBENACADIE – Residents along a stretch of Burgess Road and Highway 2 here are being advised to boil their water for at least one minute before use.
The Municipality of East Hants issued the advisory at 2 a.m. on May 14 due to “apparent contamination of the public water supply and the possibility of unsafe water,” according to a press release.
Residents under the East Hants Water Utility that live between 2858 Highway 2 and 2878 Highway 2, as well as 1 Burgess Road and 31 Burgess Road are under the advisory.
It’s been issued for boiling water before drinking, preparing infant formula, juice and ice cubes, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking, dental hygiene or any activity requiring human consumption. The boil water advisory is in effect until further notice.
The water utility identified the cause of the problem and is working to remedy it as soon as possible, however they haven’t publicly said the cause of the problem.
The utility, Nova Scotia Environment and the provincial medical officer of health are monitoring the water quality closely and are working in close consultation.
