TRURO – A little rain didn’t stop Colchester County residents from lining the streets of Truro Saturday for the annual Santa Claus parade.
In fact, many arrived early to snatch the prime seats along the route, including the corner of Queen and Lorne streets, which was packed with spectators.
“It’s a tradition for us to come out with the boys,” said Mary Teed, a Bible Hill resident who took along Karome, 6, and Stephen Arsenault, 1, to enjoy the parade with Chrissy Bonnell and her six-year-old son, Jason.
“This is Stephen’s second parade, so hopefully he’ll enjoy it more than last year. And we had to come early to get our favourite spot.”
Wearing winter jackets, snow pants and hats, the two boys brought along their camping chairs and sprawled out along Queen Street at the intersection of Louise.
“We wanted to watch the parade, and I want to give Santa my list,” Jason said.
“I want to see the police cars,” added Karome.
With the streets filling up before the parade started at 6 p.m., Chrissy said it was a good sight.
“Santa Claus comes in rain or shine,” she added.
Over on Prince Street, siblings Colby Wolfe, 9, Baley, 7, and Ashlin, 5, set up their chairs with ‘Nana and Papa’ to see the parade, and their mother who was on the EastLink float.
“We come almost every year,” Colby said. “I like to see all the pretty floats.”
His brother wanted to see the musicians while Ashlin was waiting to see the people and presents on the entries.
This is the first year the kids went to the parade with their grandparents and they were enjoying the experience, different from the tradition of watching with their parents.
“It’s awesome. We get to spend time with them and even have a sleepover,” Colby said.
Along the route, many floats played Christmas music for the crowd, with many participants shouting out holiday greetings.
The man in red whom everyone was there to see – Santa Claus – brought up the rear of the parade as usual in a float drawn by two horses.
