TRURO - Tension is mounting and emotions are raw as people try to grasp the enormous implications of impending education cuts.
"People are beside themselves. I am floored ... in a state of disbelief," said a Colchester County educator who did not want to be identified.
"We will have to put more money into the justice system down the road if all these cuts are made because if kids are not educated, more will end up in the justice system."
The educator also said if the education budget is slashed 22 per cent over the next three years, a directive that is being contemplated by the Nova Scotia government, it would be impossible for any child to escape the fallout.
"It's not pretty. The bottom line is it has to affect the children ... every child across the board," she said, adding "there's been talk it will impact permanent contracts and 40 buses could be off the road" in Chignecto-Central Regional School Board alone.
Specific figures were not released, or confirmed, to media and the general public by the school board as of Wednesday.
A preliminary plan, including impacts on staffing and programming, on how the CCRSB will deal with the cuts was supposed to be unveiled last night during a regular monthly school board meeting in Truro. However, inclement weather forced the postponement of the meeting. The public meeting has been rescheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. at the school board office on Lorne Street.
In addition, the school board plans to hold public meetings throughout CCRSB over the two to three weeks about the education cuts. A schedule is being put together now and it's believed meetings will begin next week.

Yes, too many administrators and not enough teachers. CCRSB is definitely top heavy. The most important people should be the children AND the teachers that work together every day. Trim the system as you trim a tree, top and edge branches that do minimal work.
