LONDONDERRY -

Despite a concerted effort, the Thirsty Church was not one of the successful contenders in the Aviva Community Fund contest.

Eight winners were announced yesterday.

Out of more than 2,000 ideas submitted to the nationwide contest, the Londonderry entry made it into the semi-finals involving the top 25 submissions, as determined by more than two million votes.

From those, a panel of judges picked the eight winners, including one involving building a lodge for Camp Triumph, an adventure camp for kids from families living with chronic illness in Malpeque, P.E.I.

Other winning entries came from British Columbia, two in Ontario, two in Quebec, one in Saskatchewan and one national.
