TRURO - Truro's first curbside Christmas tree collection went fairly smooth, says the town's director of public works.
"Mother Nature really co-operated," Andrew MacKinnon said.
There were concerns the trees being left curbside could disrupt snow removal from streets and sidewalks. But because of the warm weather it was not an issue.
Trees were picked up during the first full week of January. Trees that are still curbside are the responsibility of the owner to have them disposed of either by dropping them off at Verboom Grinders on Willow Lane or by chopping them up for their composter or own personal use.
The town paid $8,800 for the service and it will be addressed for 2010 in the town's budget deliberations.
