TRURO - Collection of bulky waste items in Colchester County will remain the same.
County councillors and staff have studied and debated their options of collecting bigger waste items and the best way to collect them. The issue was raised when complaints were made about people leaving such items on the curb outside of collection periods.
"It's just a few people doing it but some people abuse the fall and spring pickup (procedure)," said Deputy Mayor Ron Cavanaugh.
"Some people are leaving those items out now for fall pickup and it's way too early. It's unsightly and dangerous."
Currently, the county has a schedule for bulky waste item collection twice a year for five weeks during the spring and fall. Residents can set out items by 7 a.m. on the Monday of collection week.
Other options councillors had were to allow either one or two bulky items every garbage collection day or to not have a curbside limit during the fall and spring cleanup.
