NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. - The Marine Atlantic ferry Atlantic Vision is expected to return to service tonight after fire in a thermal heating unit forced it to return to North Sydney, N.S., on Wednesday.
The Joseph and Clara Smallwood, which was originally scheduled to go to Argentia, N.L., was re-routed to Port aux Basques, N.L., to accommodate passengers and vehicles from the Atlantic Vision.
John Majchrowicz, vice president of operations, says they are trying to accommodate traffic as best they can.
The sailing from North Sydney to Argentia today at 11 a.m. is cancelled.
New reservations for any crossings will not be accepted for a further 24 hours to enable the agency to reschedule and contact customers affected by the changes.
The ferry Leif Ericson remains dedicated to commercial traffic for next 24 to 36 hours as Marine Atlantic works with its commercial customers to identify critical loads.
