HALIFAX - Nova Scotia's NDP government is dealing with a second tragedy involving a cabinet minister's family in just over a week.
Carolyn Estabrooks, wife of Transportation Minister Bill Estabrooks, died of an apparent cardiac arrest in their Upper Tantallon home Friday morning.
The couple were married for 33 years and have two adult daughters.
Paramedics were called to treat the 60-year-old Estabrooks at the couple's home at 10:47 a.m. and worked to resuscitate her until 11:17 a.m., when she was pronounced dead.
Premier Darrell Dexter extended his sympathies to Estabrooks and his family.
"I was shocked and saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Carolyn," the premier said in a statement. "I send my heartfelt condolences to Bill, Patricia, Jenna and the entire family during this extremely difficult time."
Estabrooks's death follows the June 28 passing of Fraser Williams, the 21-year-old son of Ramona Jennex, the province's new minister of immigration and of Service Nova Scotia.
