Brooke Beiting, spokeswoman for the Cincinnati-based Convergys, said the contact centre’s 130 employees were informed Tuesday that the site will be closing Dec. 31.
Beiting said the decision to close the office was made with its clients and coincides with the expiration of the company’s lease on Highfield Park Drive.
“Based on our confidentiality agreements with our clients we cannot (elaborate),” said Beiting in a phone interview.
“Our clients are forever changing and we have to base where we have programs on our client’s discretion.”
Beiting says current employees will be able to apply to other Convergys locations or for at-home work positions. The company also has an office in New Glasgow.
She says employment counseling will also be provided.
The centre laid off some workers last year after one of the company’s clients closed a customer service wing.
Convergys has operated in Dartmouth since 1998. It has customer contact centres around the world, including in North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
