Victoria whale-watching company, Prince of Whales, continues to add offerings to its adventure schedule.
Last year, Prince of Whales began harbour-to-harbour commutes between Victoria and Vancouver, including whale watching and Butchart Gardens visits.
Now they've added a two-hour Zodiac sightseeing trip along Vancouver's shore and up Indian Arm Provincial Park.
Beginning from the lobby of the Westin Bayshore Hotel, where guests get suited up in survival suits and take a short walk to the Prince of Whales launch site on Cole Harbour, the Zodiac adventure roars out of Burrard Inlet and up past Vancouver's industrial eastside.
Viewing the city from the water is truly awe-inspiring as visitors pause briefly under the Iron Workers' Memorial Bridge while a guide outlines some of the sights to see in the once heavily glaciated Marine Park.
The old-growth forest that lines Indian Arm is home to an abundance of wildlife, and the salmon run this time of year brings out the eagles, seals and sea lions.
Twin Islands and Raccoon Island are in the middle of the fiord, and on the west shore the neighbourhood of Deep Cove is a launching spot for boaters and kayakers. Silver Falls and the 50-metre Granite Falls are spectacular even during the dry season.
At the north end of Indian Arm, where the historic Wigwam Inn now serves as an outstation for the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, the Zodiac trip turns around and heads back down Indian Arm past Stanley Park and below Lion's Gate Bridge before returning to Cole Harbour.
Prince of Whales organizes trips on the hour from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Call 1-888-383-4884 for reservations and more information.
