TRURO - An eyesore along the Salmon River will soon meet its match with the wrecking ball.
The Town of Truro has awarded a tender to Webster's Trucking and Excavation, a Truro company, to demolish the old public works facilities. Two of the three buildings are located at Walker Street and Bayview while the third is on Mill Street.
"The timing will be subject to the public works department vacating that location," said chief administrative officer Jim Langille.
A new $2.1-million public works facility
is under construction in the Truro Industrial Park and is expected to be ready for staff
this month.
"So it may be a Christmas Day present for us, who knows," Coun. Sharron Byers said of the demolition of the current facility.
"Labour Day present," Mayor Bill Mills added.
The demolition cost was not available yesterday as not all bidders had been notified.

Good Lord, town council and staff can't even decide on when a derelict town-owned building is going to be removed!

And these are the people who look after our affairs?

    Boy, are we in trouble.
