Picking wild cranberries along the shores of Lake Rossignol in Queens County, Nova Scotia, is an annual fall tradition for Robin Anthony and her family. They do their best to pick a perfect day in mid-October and combine berry picking with picnicking, exploring, and sitting back to savour the sounds of nature.
Robin is well versed in the history of the region saying: “the lake’s boggy shores were formed as a result of the area flooding after hydroelectric dams were built on the Mersey River in the 1920s.
Robin’s much-used and loved berry basket is by local Mi’Kmaq basket artist, Cyril Mooers.
