Local squad returns to action on Friday with a home game vs. Rebels

TRURO, N.S. – The Mi’kmaq Warriors, fresh off their first victory of the season, return to action on Friday, May 17 in the East Coast Junior Lacrosse League.

The Warriors host the St. Margaret’s Bay Rebels for an 8 p.m. matchup at the Colchester Legion Stadium.

These teams met last Wednesday at the BMO Centre and settled on an 8-8 tie.

The Warriors (1-2-1) enter tomorrow’s contest after a thrilling 11-10 win over the New Brunswick Mavericks last Sunday in Truro. The Mavericks pressed for the equalizer late in the game, however, Warriors goaltender Connary McGee made a big save in the dying seconds to preserve the win. 

Bryson Knockwood led the Warriors with six goals and two assists, while captain Connor Dennis netted a hat trick and Ethan Malcom chipped in two goals. Kyle Langlois added a goal and three helpers.

Friday, May 10

Halifax Hurricanes 14
Mi’kmaq Warriors 9

The Hurricanes built a three-goal lead in the first-period and led by a comfortable 13-4 margin after 40 minutes. The Warriors stepped up their game in the third and outscored the visitors by a 5-1 margin, however, it wasn’t enough.

Connor Sabattis fired a hat trick and added two assists for the Warriors, while Knockwood had two goals. Dennis, Jordan Whitford, Calem McAndrew and Malcom had other goals.

St. Margaret’s Bay Rebels 8

Mackenzie Maloney of the Warriors tied the game with 5:53 remaining in the third to give the Warriors a hard-fought draw.

Whitford led the charge with a goal and five assists, while Dennis had a hat trick, Knockwood added two goals and an assist, and Sabattis also scored.
