BROOKFIELD, N.S. – The Brookfield Elks ran the table, posting a 5-0 record to capture the Nova Scotia under-12 fastpitch championship during the weekend at Elk Park.

The Elks blanked the West Hants Thunder 4-0 in Sunday’s gold-medal game after downing East Hants Fraser 8-0 earlier in the day in a semifinal.

In their opening game of the tournament on Friday, Keegan Maguire spun a no-hitter to lead the Elks past East Hants Blue 1-0. In Game 2 on Saturday, Brookfield edged Antigonish 4-3, before a 10-0 romp over the Highland Park Heat in their final preliminary game on Sunday.

Maguire was named tournament MVP, and large crowds were on hand for all games throughout the tournament.

It was the second provincial fastpitch title for a Brookfield team this summer, coming after the U10 Elks nabbed Nova Scotia gold on Aug. 11 in Lantz.

This weekend, the U12 Elks travel to Hoyt, N.B., for the Eastern Canadian championship tournament.
