TRURO, N.S. – Owen Mullen captured a Future Links junior golf title this week at Twin Rivers in Port Blandford, N.L.

The 14-year-old from Truro carded the low round of the day on Thursday – 1-over 72 – and finished with a 72-hole total of 6-over 219 to win the event by two strokes over Peter Blazevic of Mississauga, Ont.

Mullen started slow in the final round with three consecutive bogeys but rebounded with an impressive eagle on the ninth hole, followed by three birdies on the back nine on his way to victory.

“I haven’t been playing my best lately so it was good to close this one out and get the win,” said Mullen.

Blazevic, who shared the lead with Mullen entering the final 18 holes, struggled throughout his round, but ended strong with back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes.

Mullen will compete at the national junior championship July 30 to Aug. 2 in Medicine Hat, Alta.

“The tournament will be my first nationals. I’m just looking to play well there and am hoping to make the cut.”
