HALIFAX, N.S. – Truro’s Jared McIsaac chipped in offensively to help the Halifax Mooseheads earn a 5-2 win over the Drummondville Voltigeurs on Wednesday in a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League semifinal series.
McIsaac, a 19-year-old defenceman, assisted on Raphael Lavoie’s power-play goal at 11:03 of the second period, and also helped set up a power-play marker by Antoine Morand at 19:07 of the middle frame.
With the win, the Mooseheads lead the best-of-seven series 3-1 and can advance to the President’s Cup final series with a victory on Friday in Drummmondville.
McIsaac, selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round (36th overall) at last June’s NHL entry draft, has two goals and eight assists in 14 playoff games.
Ben Higgins of Bible Hill has also been a key contributor for Halifax as a checking forward. Higgins has played in all 15 post-season games for the Mooseheads and has one assist.
The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies await the winner of the Halifax-Drummondville series. The Huskies swept their semifinal from the Rimouski Oceanic.
The Mooseheads will host the Memorial Cup May 17 to 26 at the Scotiabank Centre.
