TRURO, N.S. – Truro athletes enjoyed success at the recent Subway Atlantic University Sport track and field championship last weekend in Moncton.

Erin McCavour and Jean-Luc Bastarache hit the top of the podium in their respective sports.

McCavour, a first-year science student at UNB, won gold in the women’s long jump with a jump of 5.42m. She also earned a bronze medal in the women’s triple jump on Day 1 with a jump of 11.08m.

Following the championships, McCavour was named AUS rookie of the year.

Bastarache, a fifth-year electrical engineering student, was the winner of the men’s heptathlon. He also earned a silver medal in the men’s pole vault (4.20m), tying the record set by teammate Alain Doucet.

Bastarache was also named AUS field athlete of the year.

Bastarache and McCavour will both compete at the U SPORT national championship March 7 to 9 in Manitoba.

The Dalhousie Tigers swept the men’s and women’s titles at the event.
