TRURO, N.S. – Myles Hektor stopped 48 of 49 shots as the Truro Bearcats slipped out of Amherst Thursday night with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Ramblers in Maritime Junior Hockey League play.

The Bearcats are now in third place a point back of Amherst in the Eastlink South Division. The Ramblers have 27 points on 13 wins, five losses and the one shootout loss. The Bearcats have 36 points on 12 wins, four losses, an overtime loss, and two wins and a loss in the shootout department.

To state the obvious, Hektor had to be on his game as the Bearcats were badly outshot 49-30, with half the Amherst shots coming in the third frame when they held a 25-9 advantage.

Karter Renouf opened the scoring for Truro at 9:59 of the opening period, with Camdon Langlois and Shaun Bily picking up assists. Amherst responded at 2:22 of the second on an unassisted goal by Cole Waugh.

After a scoreless third, and nothing settled in overtime, the teams went to the shootout. Gavin Hart, the Bearcats’ third shooter, found the mark after Bily had scored earlier. As was the case though pretty much the entire course of the game, Amherst failed to get anything by Hektor.

The game was a relatively tame affair, considering the combatants, with the Ramblers called for three minors and the Bearcats, two.

Bext up for Truro is a contest this coming Friday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. when they host the league-leading Yarmouth Mariners.
