TRURO, N.S. – Truro native Pat Carroll is fighting for his first professional MMA title in the new year.
He will be facing  Christien "Tiger’"Savoie in the welterweight title bout being staged Jan. 18 at Casino New Brunswick. His fight will be one of two taking place for the Elite 1 MMA: Fight Night 37 event.
“It’s the biggest fight of my career, no doubt,” said Carroll, who now lives in Halifax.
He said Savoie, from New Brunswick, has already won seven professional fights with no losses.
However, Carroll feels confident and says his training is going well.
“There’s no doubt that we are the two best welterweights on this side of Canada,” said Carroll.
The other fight of the evening is between Hank "Tank" Anderson and Nick "The Boom" Coombes.
Three weeks after this event, pro and amateur MMA is coming back to Truro for the first time in 12 years at Fight League Atlantic’s inaugural event at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre. It will be held on Feb. 8, and Carroll will be on the card.
"I think I’m the first guy from Truro to fight MMA and the only one to turn it into a pro career so it’s awesome to see the sport finally coming back here," said Carroll.
