TRURO, N.S. – Beyond Boxing fighters will have the opportunity to showcase their skills during an amateur fight card on April 13 at the Best Western Glengarry in Truro.

The event will feature 12 to 15 fights and at least seven boxers from the Truro-based club.

“All the work they put in in the gym, they get to showcase it there,” said Beyond Boxing head coach Ted Ash. “Winning’s not done in the ring, it’s done here (during training) and I want these guys to show what they’ve done.”

Clubs from Cape Breton to New Brunswick will send fighters to Truro for bouts.

It will be the second fight card for the local club in six months, coming after its inaugural event last November that drew almost 400 fight fans to the Glengarry.

“It was a good success and we’re hoping this one is going to be even better,” said Ash.

The card will be part of a busy three-month stretch for Truro fighters. Last weekend, Beyond Boxing athletes competed in New Waterford, with upcoming fights taking place in New Glasgow, Sydney and Halifax.

“We’ve got some really good, talented athletes in here,” Ash said. “They work really hard.”

Ash opened Beyond Boxing Fitness Studio last September. The club currently has about 30 members and about 15 competitive boxers. The club is not-for-profit and hosting fight cards is the gym’s major fundraiser.

Beyond Boxing recently held a demo at the Truro Mall and will take part in the Youth Expo at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex in Brookfield on April 27.
