TRURO, N.S. – The Truro Bearcats overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat the Pictou County Weeks Crushers 3-2 in Maritime Junior Hockey League preseason action Friday at the RECC.

The win gives the Bearcats a 2-1 won-lost record in exhibition play, after they previously split a pair of overtime games with Valley.

The same teams are slated to face each other Saturday (tonight) in New Glasgow, both looking to find the right mix of players to open the regular with season next week.

After a scoreless first, the Crushers popped two quick ones in the first two minutes of the second to take the lead, with Jacob Hickey and Cameron Scott finding the mark.

The Bearcats got one back at 15:24 of the middle frame, as Carson Lanceleve tallied, assisted by Trey Faulkner and Karter Renouf.

In the third, Dylan Burton scored what proved to be the winner at 11:12, with Lanceleve and Renouf helping out.

The Bearcats split goaltending duties with Sean Slavik minding the pipes through the first half of the contest, making 26 saves on 28 shots. Myles Hektor was in for the remainder of the game and stoned the Crushers on 22 shots to earn first-star honours.

Pictou went the distance with Sean Julien who faced 39 Truro shots.

The Bearcats open regular season play on the road as they travel to St. Stephen on Saturday for a 7 p.m. start with the Aces.

Their home opener is Saturday, Sept. 22 when they host the Valley Wildcats at 7 p.m. Then on Wednesday, Sept. 26 Truro entertains the Amherst Ramblers, again at 7 p.m.
