TRURO, N.S. — The Truro Bearcats under-11s clawed back a victory in their afternoon match against Halifax, after enduring a close defeat Saturday morning at home.
Reid MacDonald, Austin Brown, Ryan Jollimore, Matthew Scullion, Jordan Carr, Griffin Scott, Paul Worden and Chris DeCoste propelled Truro to an 8-5 win against the Halifax Mets Mosquito AAA side in their second game.
“The players did fantastic all day,” said Bearcats coach Darson Murphy. “This has been our 13th game in two weeks.”
In the afternoon match, Halifax started strong by scoring five runs on the first inning, but were unable to keep up as Truro notched up their own points.
Truro scored a single run in the second inning, followed by six in the third and one more in the fourth, after which a strong defence by the home side stopped Halifax from making any more gains.
However, Halifax beat Truro 7-6 in their first game on Aug. 3. Murphy said both sides held up well throughout both games, despite the 30-degree heat.
Scoring for Truro in the day’s first game were Reid MacDonald, Austin Brown, Malky Murphy, Ryan Jollimore and Eve Taylor.
All in all, their Aug. 3 games were good practice for the Bearcats, who will be competing at the provincials on Aug. 23-25, being hosted by the Tri-County region.
