The St. John’s Edge kept working their way to a 12-man roster for the 2019-20 National Basketball League of Canada season on Tuesday.

One more player and the Edge will have a starting lineup.

Six-eight, 225-pound guard/forward Montay Brandon has become the fourth player signed by St. John’s, joining the team after spending most of his first two professional years playing in southeast Asia.

Brandon, a native of High Point, N.C., out in his collegiate years with Florida State University, appearing in 135 games with the Seminoles over four seasons, and making 122 starts, a school record.

Besides games started, the 26-year-old finished in Florida State’s all-time top-25 in three other categories (career games started, games played, free throws attempted and free throws made.)

Last season, Brandon played in Indonesia with the CLS Knights. The year before, he was in Japan with the Kagawa Five Arrows.

“Montay is a mismatch nightmare,” said St. John’s head coach Steve Marcus. “At six-eight with incredible length, he has the ability to truly play every position on the floor.

“He fits everything we are building culturally; he is an unbelievable young man that will be a great asset for us in St. John’s. “

The Edge had already signed returning players Junior Cadougan and Murphy Burnatowski, and earlier this week announced they had inked Cane Broone, a rookie guard from the University of Cincinnati. The team has said it's the beginning of what will be a regular stream of player-signing announcements in the coming weeks.

The Edge open their 2019-20 regular season on Dec. 27 in Moncton against the Magic, the team that swept them in last season’s league final. The first home game for St. John’s is Jan. 7
