BROOKFIELD, N.S. – There’s a new champion in the Shooters Bar and Grill Fastpitch League.

The Shubie Lions won the title Saturday after a 8-1 victory over three-time reigning champion Whiterock Rockies in the final of the league’s championship tournament.

The Lions went undefeated in three games at the double-knockout event. They opened with a 3-1 win over the Rockies on Thursday, and blanked the regular season champion Halifax Pepperjacks 8-0 on Saturday to punch their ticket to the final.

Credit the Rockies for a gutsy effort. After dropping their first game to the Lions, Whiterock took the long route to the gold-medal game by rhyming off three straight Saturday wins to earn a spot in the final.

The Brookfield Elks – the lone Colchester County team to take part – posted a 1-2 record. The Elks defeated the Prodigy Red Sox 3-1 on Friday, before a 6-1 setback to the Pepperjacks later in the evening. Brookfield’s championship hopes came to an end after a 7-2 loss to the Rockies on Saturday.
