TRURO, N.S. – The Truro Saints men’s rugby team is seeking players.
The Saints, a Division 2 senior squad, have been shorthanded early this season and would like to see more bodies on the pitch for practices and games.
“We have a lot of talent in the area, it’s just a matter of getting a few more guys,” said Doug Conrad, vice-president of the Truro Saints men’s rugby team.
Fifteen players are required in rugby, plus substitutes. In the Saints’ first game of the season, they had 18 players, however, the next two games drew 12 and 15, respectively.
Conrad said it’s been tough getting players to commit to the team over the past couple of years. He said the Saints have been trying to get more local high school players to come out, however, that has also been challenging.
“We have that sort of core of 12 and then the numbers after that, that’s where it gets sporadic,” said Conrad.
The Saints’ season began the second week of June and runs until August. They play in a nine-team league and return to the pitch on Saturday, July 20 when they host Enfield at 1 p.m. at the Truro Saints Rugby Park.
