BEDFORD, N.S. — A Cape Breton Eagles prospect captured The Chronicle Herald East Coast Ice Jam championship on Sunday in Bedford.

Defenceman Jacob Christie won the title with the Steele Subaru Major Midgets, defeating the Halifax McDonalds 3-1 at BMO Centre.

The 17-year-old, who was drafted by the Eagles in the ninth round last June, picked up an assist on the eventual game-winner by Ben Mercer on the power play at 10:28 of the third period.

Christie finished the tournament with two goals and four assists in seven games last week.

Meanwhile, Halifax McDonald's goaltender Sebastian Lever, who has connections to Glace Bay, was named to the tournament's first all-star team.
