TRURO, N.S. – Colchester County will be represented at next week’s Nova Scotia curling championships at Dartmouth Curling Club.

At the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, three players with local connections will compete, including Truro’s Kelly Backman (nee MacIntosh), who throws third stones for Kristen MacDiarmid’s Lakeshore rink.

A pair of Colchester County players – Taylor Clarke (third) and Mackenzie Proctor (second) – will play with Tanya Hilliard’s Dartmouth rink. Clarke and Proctor won a provincial junior girls championship together with Mary Myketyn-Driscoll in 2013.

At the Tankard championship, Truro players Peter Burgess (third), Graham Breckon (second) and Kelly Middelstadt (lead) will play for the Chad Steven’s rink out of Cheter.

Both provincial championships feature eight teams and will be played Jan. 21 to 27.

The Nova Scotia women’s champs will advance to nationals Feb. 16 to 24 in Sydney, while the provincial men's winners will play at the Canadian championship March 2 to 10 in Brandon, Man.
