TRURO, N.S. – Truro’s Owen Mullen and Isaac MacNaughton have earned the right to represent Nova Scotia at the Canadian junior golf championship in Hartlen, N.B., in August.

Both players turned in brilliant final rounds on Thursday at the Nova Scotia junior championship at Truro Golf Club to nail down the second and third positions on the provincial team.

Mullen entered the final round five strokes behind leader Mark Chandler of Chester. However, the Truro golfer shot 2-over-par 73 on Thursday, while Chandler had 78 to give both players a 54-hole score of 224. In the playoff, both players made pars on the first and second holes. Chandler won it with a par on the third playoff hole, while Mullen made bogey.

Mullen, who is two years younger than Chandler, was the juvenile winner, finishing five strokes ahead of Ashburn’s Ben Childs.

MacNaughton was consistent on Thursday, and turned in the low round of the day, firing a 1-over 72 for a 228 total to finish just four strokes behind Chandler and Mullen.

Other Truro results were: Connor MacKay, 10th (244); Cole Bernard, T18 (255); Sam Stoddard, 22 (260) and Daniel MacKenzie T24 (263).

In the junior girls division, Heather McLean of Ken-Wo won her second straight Nova Scotia crown. She fired 3-over 75 on the final day for a 225 total and 12-stroke victory over juvenile winner Abbey Baker of Ashburn.

Earlier in the week, bantam and peewee champions were crowned. Gavin Ives of Ashburn was the winner in the bantam boys division with a 36-hole total 158. Truro’s Simon Mullen finished fifth. Truro’s Zach Gaudet won the peewee boys division by 14 strokes after rounds of 74-78, while the peewee girls winner was Paragon’s Annika Parkash, who won by three strokes.
