Nova Scotia wrestlers earned two silver medals at the 2019 under-17 and under-19 national freestyle championships over the weekend in Fredericton.

Wolfville’s Makayla Levy, fresh off a bronze medal at the 2019 junior national championships in Saskatoon, added a silver to her medal collection. The Brock University wrestler entered the under-19 57-kilogram final match versus her Ontario opponent without a point scored against her.

Tea Racozzi, a King’s-Edgehill School athlete and provincial high school champion who wrestles for the Windsor Mat Kings, finished second overall in the under-19 74-kg class at nationals.

It was also a medal-winning weekend for Nova Scotian Greco-Roman wrestlers.

Maddie Charlton of the Metro Amateur Wrestling Club in Lower Sackville, competing in her first national championship, captured gold in the under-17 46-kg category.

Her MAWC teammate Elias Wile claimed silver in U19 71-kg while Akwaima Akpan of the Sackville Wrestling Club was a silver medallist in U17 73-kg.

Tsubaki Onishi of the Bridgewater Panthers took home bronze in U19 57-kg.
