BIBLE HILL, N.S. — Horses and riders are sharpening their skills for the barrel racing season.
“This is an exciting time of year for us,” said Tracey Higgins, president of the Maritime Barrel Racing Association (MBRA). “The weather’s getting nicer and we’re able to ride more.
“We’re really looking forward to putting on some good shows for the public. It’s a real thrill to see the stands packed and hear the crowds cheer.”
The first MBRA jackpot of the year will be held at the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition (NSPE) grounds in Bible Hill June 1-2 and the racers will return in August during exhibition.
“I definitely enjoy watching and I’ll be there for as much of it as I can take in,” said Darrelyn Hubley, NSPE manager. “There’s a lot of passion that goes into it and it’s exciting for the crowds. It’s something not to be missed.”
The Truro competition is part of the Ram Rodeo Tour and Maritime exhibitions include Ram Rodeo classes.
“Ram has sponsored the MBRA for 30 years,” said Higgins. “We really appreciate it because it wouldn’t be possible to do a lot of these things without sponsorship.
“The NSPE is one of our favourite Ram Rodeo race locations, with an awesome crowd and following.”
Everyone is welcome to watch the event at the MacMillan Show Centre June 1-2. There is no admission fee.
