NSSAF VOLLEYBALL: Cobequid wins 5th straight boys' banner; C.P. Allen girls earns first

The Cobequid Cougars captured their fifth straight NSSAF Division 1 boys’  volleyball title with a 25-16, 17-25, 15-5 victory over the Sommet Cougars on Saturday in Truro.

Noah Boudreau led the Cougars throughout the tournament with 55 kills, seven stuff blocks and 19 service points while  Aiden Fitzpatrick had 16 kills, 33 digs and 12 service points. Setters Nick White and  Fitzpatrick combined for  95 assists.  

Cobequid coach Harvey MacEachern gave full marks to his team that battled through a tough tournament that featured several strong opponents.

"A core of group of Grade 11's, who had to play like seniors, balancing hard work, talent, and perseverance. The team learned throughout the season, the championship tournament, and in the semifinals and finals that success has a whole lot of failure mixed in and you never give up."
 
The Cougars advanced to the championship after a hard-fought semifinal win (25-22, 23-25, 16-14) over the Auburn Drive Eagles. Sommet also needed three sets (25-13, 18-25, 15-12)  to down West King’s in the other semifinal.

In the bronze medal game, West King’s edged Auburn  25-19, 23-25, 17-15.
 
The C.P. Allen Cheetahs won their first provincial Division 1 girls' title with a 24-26, 26-24, 15-9 win over  Cobequid on Saturday in Coxheath.

Host Riverview edged Horton 30-28, 25-23 to capture the bronze medal.

In the semifinals, C.P. Allen stopped Horton 25-16, 25-22 and Cobequid beat Riverview  21-25, 25-18, 15-8.

Division 2
Par en Bas defeated Millwood  25-16, 26-24 to win the provincial girls’ gold medal while Sommet edged Digby 25-23, 25-23 to take the bronze medal.

Middleton captured their second straight boys’ championship with a 25-21, 24-26, 15-8 win over Pomquet. 

South Colchester beat  AWEC 25-16, 25-20 for the bronze medal.

In semifinal action, Pomquet topped South Colchester  25-10, 29-27 and Middleton dropped  AWEC 25-17, 25-7.
