Mullen finishes T41 at national junior golf championship

TRURO, N.S. – Truro’s Owen Mullen finished in a tie for 41st at the Canadian junior boys golf championship.

Mullen shot a final-round 4-over-par 76 on Thursday for a 72-hole score of 1-over 289 at the Covered Bridge Golf Club in Hartland, N.B. He was the top Nova Scotian at the tournament. Ewan Jr. Kelly of Ashburn finished at 4 over, while Nova Scotia champion Mark Chandler of Chester came in at 8 over. Truro’s Isaac MacNaughton had a pair of 78s and missed the cut.

Mullen carded an opening-round 1-under 71 on Monday. During Tuesday’s second round, the 16-year-old opened with an eagle at the par-5 first hole and went five under on the front nine, en route to a 2-under 70. On Wednesday, Mullen shot even-par 72.

Christopher Vandette of Beaconsfield, Que., won his second straight national junior title. Vandette was 15 under and won by two strokes over Brady McKinlay of Lacombe, Alta., and was four ahead of Carter Graf of Sylvan Lake, Alta.
