TRURO, N.S. – Keegan Macumber netted two goals and the Fundy Thunder defeated the top team in the Nova Scotia Minor Midget AAA Hockey League on Saturday.

Macumber opened the scoring in the first period and added a power-play goal for insurance in the final frame as the Thunder downed the Basin Armada 3-1 at the Colchester Legion Stadium.

Noah Harrison also scored on the power play for the Thunder, while Calum McAndrew had two assists and goaltender Ashton Cutten made 23 saves for the win.

It was the first of a two-win weekend for the Thunder who downed the Cape Breton Jets 6-2 on Sunday. Sam Rogers led the way in that game with a pair of goals, while Ewan MacKinnon and Kyran Burton each had a goal and an assist. Mason Bird and McAndrew had other goals for the Thunder, who led 1-0 after the first period and 3-0 after two.

Fundy goaltender Brandon White faced 35 shots.

The victories ran Fundy’s record to 9-6-0-0, fourth in the eight-team league, while the Armada dropped to second place with a 13-4-0-0 record. The Admirals took over first place in the league after a two-win weekend of their own and now sit at 12-2-3-0.

This Saturday, the Thunder hosts the ChiroCare Kings for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop at the Colchester Legion Stadium before a Sunday road game against the Armada.
