Major bantam Truro Bearcats split weekend games

TRURO, N.S. – The Truro Bearcats split games last weekend against the top two teams in the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League.

The Bearcats edged the second-place ACCEL Hawks 2-1 on Saturday before a 4-2 loss to the league-leading Gulls on Sunday.

In the win, Bryson Currie scored the winner in the third period, and had an assist on Brook Thomson’s first-period goal. Goaltender Cole Desrosiers made 20 saves.

In the loss, the Bearcats fell behind 3-0 in the second period and never recovered. Currie, shorthanded, and Marshall scored for Truro and Lisa Mombourquette faced 15 shots in nets.

The Bearcats (9-4-0-0) sit in third place with 18 points, just one point behind the Hawks (9-1-0-1). Currie is second in league scoring with 25 points and is tied for first in goals with 17.

Truro heads to New Brunswick this weekend for action in the Monctonian tournament.
