TRURO, N.S. – The Cobequid Cougars varsity team won the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Northumberland region girls volleyball title last week.
The Cougars posted straight-set wins over Dr. J.H. Gillis (25-20, 25-11), host North Nova (25-15, 25-12) and Northumberland (25-17, 25-14) to capture the title.
As a result of the win, the Cougars advance directly to the NSSAF championship in Cape Breton Dec. 6 and 7. The provincial tournament will be hosted by Riverview and will be held at the Memorial High School gymnasium in North Sydney.
The CEC boys varsity volleyball team will host Avonview on Friday at 1 p.m. in a provincial play-in match. With a win, the Cougars will host the NSSAF championship tournament Dec. 6 and 7.
JV Cougars to host provincials this weekend
TRURO, N.S. – The CEC junior varsity girls volleyball team will host the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation JV championship tournament Nov. 29 and 30.
Eight teams will battle for provincial honours, including Lockview, J.L. Ilsley, Riverview, SAERC, Park View, Digby, Northumberland and CEC.
Matches begin at 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon, followed by opening ceremonies and matches at 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
The JV Cougars will face Riverview at 3 p.m. and J.L. Ilsley at 7p.m. On Saturday, CEC will meet Park View at 9 a.m. Semifinals are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. with the championship and bronze medal matches starting at 3:30 p.m.
The CEC JV girls are two-time defending provincial champions.
