TRURO, N.S. – Get out your scrum caps – the Truro World Indoor Rugby 7s tournament is back.

The 43rd edition of the tournament begins Friday, March 8 at 2 p.m. at the MacMillan Show Centre on the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition grounds in Bible Hill.

Teams from all over the Maritimes and one from Ontario will compete on the MacMillan’s new sand surface for the first time instead of the hard-packed dirt which they played on in past years.

Board member Bruce Casey said the new surface makes for a slower game, however, the organizing committee is embracing the sand.
“Every year we have a theme and with the new surface, we decided to go with a beach theme,” said Casey.

Thirty-eight teams are pencilled in for competition, down from past tournaments, however, Casey is taking it in stride.

“We can guarantee teams three games this year instead of the usual two, and also it won’t be as crowded either,” he said.

“Some years we started on Friday at nine in the morning and didn’t end until midnight, so it makes it easier to accommodate people.”

Friday action wraps up at 10 p.m. On Saturday, matches run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., while Sunday games go from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The MacMillan Show Centre is a great venue for spectators, who can get up close to the all the action along the rail.

Admission is free and schedule info can be found on Facebook under the event 2019 Truro World Indoor Rugby 7s.
